Ho long does it take before you stop feeling pain after a root cana?

Hi, I had a root canal done on monday 06/11, and it is 2 days later and my tooth feels af if someone punched me really hard in the mouth. The tooth hurts, it is one of my front teeth. Is this normal and when should I be concerned? I know I had a procedure done and that it will hurt for a few days, but how many days is too many? and how long after the procedure should i get it restored. My dentist told me to come back in 3-4 months. Is this normal or should I go back sooner. This is my first root canal so I am confused.
Answer:
It took me three weeks so it really depends just try not to chew anything on the side that the root canal was done until the pain goes away,
Did they give you a prescription for pain use it if you can tolerate the pain it helps.
If it still does not go away with the medicine prescribed then go see you dentist right away! But it will go away as the days go by but make sure to go back to get it check on your appointment in three months.Take Care
Give your body time to heal...if you are still in severe pain after 1 week...Go see to dentist.
that sounds a little weird that you have to wait that long...usually after you start a root canal...in two week you go back to finish it..i dont think that sounds right, doesnt sound good that you have to wait that long...is it because its the next available appointment..not good to wait that long to finish a root canal..did he give you antibiotics and painkillers for the infection..you should call your dentist and ask why you have to wait because it doesnt sound right to wait that long..especially for a root canal ..call another dentist you can get a consoltation with another dentist usually for free to get a second opinion as well it would hurt,,doesnt sound right ive been a dental assistant for 9 years...weird, feel better :)
you should not have pain because the purpose of the root canal was to remove the nerves. no nerves no pain
I had a root canal done on one of my molars not long ago. The endodontist I went to see took two appointments to complete it, waiting two weeks in between for the gum tissue to heal. I just went in to my regular dentist today to get the prep work for my crown. It was approximately three weeks from the time the root canal was completed to this appointment. Again, my dentist wanted my mouth to heal a bit before working on the crown. I'm going in again in a couple weeks to have the crown put on.As for how long the pain lasts, after the first visit, I was quite sore for up to a week. For another week after that, it didn't hurt, but wasn't completely comfortable. After the second appointment, it was a little sore for just a couple days. Now that I'm working on my crown, I am a bit sore now and it will probably last a couple days before it's gone.I would say that if the pain hasn't lessened by Monday, call your dentist.
