How do i know if my tongue piercing is infected?
Answer:
Usually the tongue falls off by then!
Your tongue would be swollen and it would hurt.
if its sore
Puffy, swollen, discharge, or very soar
well, i dont have a tongue ring, but if its kinda like bothering you and if its itching or just sore, then i guess how i will knoe its infected.
It will be swollen, sore %26 possibly white around the pierced area. You can always go back to the piercer %26 he can check it for you.
is your tongue swelling and red and is puss coming out of it thats when you know when its in infected.
your tongue stays swollen and sore up to 3 weeks! if i tis infected you would have PUS comeign out of it
You have to be careful. If it is inflamed in anyway watch out and make sure you use mouthwash alot and be sure to tighten the balls on top and bottom and also make sure the bar in between is long enough for the thickness of your tongue. If you are feeling any pain because of it go and get it checked out because you arent supposed to feel any kind of pain from a tongue piercing if it was done correctly and yo are keeping it clean.
The swelling, the odor and the pain. Just ask someone to look in your mouth and they will be able to tell you. Just to be on the safe side why not take out piercing. If you lose your tongue you will not be able to speak. Is it worth it?
If you see stuff around the ring it might be infected or if the swelling doesn't go down in a week or so. Just try to brush your tongue and use listerine, keep it clean as possible. It took my tongue a week before the swelling went away. I washed my mouth with listerine after every meal and when I woke up and went to bed. I hated the fact that I couldn't eat solid food for a week. I did cheat though, I broke off small pieces and put it in the back of my mouth. If your really worried go to where you got it pierce and they will tell you.
what's pus taste like?
If your tongue resembles the GoodYear blimp and your breath smells like burnt rubber then it's a pretty good bet that you have an infection. Best idea would be to visit a Doctor for a professional opinion.
Keep an eye on it. If you think it is infected I would remove it. Mine got a sore around the top ball. My dentist told me to swish my mouth with a 1:1 solution of water and hydrogen peroxide before bed and then throughout the day uses a q-tip to apply full strenght peroxide to the area. He also said to avoid spicy, salty or irritating foods.
I guess it just depends on what kinda infection it is.
The only thing I think about is that the hole is an open wound (because your tongue is a muscle it never really heals, thats why it can close up when you remove it, it can finally heal) and that open hole leads to a bloodstream that goes through your heart and alot of germs from the mouth can cause endocarditis (heart infection).
it will be swollen and hurt like heck for a few days after you get it done. if it is infected you may run a fever and there will be greenish, pus-like drainage. you should have gotten after care instructions and a sheet with the signs of infection when you had your piercing done, assuming you had it done by a licensed professional. refer to those and if you're still in doubt go see your doctor...better safe than sorry
swollen and sore for more then a week after
Remove it immediately and go to an emergency room for an exam and antibiotics !
The "puss" is really called lymph.
Your tongue will produce lymph, be swollen %26 sore for about 1 week or more. :) I just got my tongue pierced yesterday! Same thing is happening to me.
Oh, buy some seasalt and mix it into water, that is a better way of cleaning your new piercing.
It's all perfectly normal. Infection is indicated by: green pus (not white or yellowish), pain, heat, redness. You're going to have swelling for up to two weeks, white or whitish-yellow discharge for a while (called lymph) and it's going to hurt for about 2 weeks as well. Tongues rarely get infected.Keep up with the sea salt soaks (H2Ocean is fine), don't play with it, avoid any kind of oral contact with others for at least 10 weeks. You'll be fine. Don't use mouthwash as aftercare (you can use mouthwash normally after 2 weeks)
