You might get an upset stomach or perhaps throw up, but probably nothing considerable if it is a small quantity. Dental product manufacturer's advise you not to swallow fluoride due to the fact that excess fluoride will cause white spots to form on your teeth if your teeth are still forming. This means that children who still have baby teeth run the risk of getting white spots on their adult teeth if they routinely ingest high concentrations of fluoride. The white spots may be tiny or large and can have other causes like trauma or a high fever.
Fluoride (in the right concentration) is a very valuable way to reduce dental decay...

huh.!
Who says you can't?
the flouride in the toothpaste is not good for you -- it won't hurt if you swallow a little bit but not a lot -- why do you want to swallow toothpaste anyway??
This is more of an issue for children. The over ingesting of fluoride can lead to fluorsis in the permanent teeth.i.e when the 2nd teeth erupt they will have funny mottling stains on them.
Ditto rach t's answer, it's the fluoride content in toothpaste!
Because it contains fluoride, which is an active ingredient. If children swallow too much it can effect the forming of the enamel on teeth, and cause something called fluorsis which is white or brown flecks. It is like a medication.Qualified Dental Nurse
it is mainly advised that children are not to swallow to much tooth paste the fluoride in the tooth paste can make there adult teeth speckled though very strong, that is why they brought out children's toothpaste that has a lower concentration of fluoride in it.
