How do you know if you have halitosis?

i think my friend has halitosis, her breath is horrible, and it has been like that for as long as i can remember, i cant stand to be close to her, or facing her when we are talking because her breath is HORRIBLE! its like she doesnt even know, how can she not know her breath is super bad!?
how do i know if she has halitosis or not? and how can i tell her about her breath?
Answer:
Carry a pack of Trident sugarless gum with you, and when you take out a piece to chew, offer a stick to your friend. Hopefully your friend will take the hint. :-D
a true friend will tell her, and a truer friend will listen and not be offended...talk to her, and set up a code.my gf and I had codes for almost everything.bad breath, I love garlic and onions, or if we had coffee, it would be, "GOT GUM?".and she would get us both a piece of gum...she never knew unless I told her, and I figured if hers does, then mine does too, and we would thank each other...we got this one from "Yes Dear" re-runs, when the kid said, "You got bats in the cave!"...so, when we went out, before we went in stores, we did a check...heck, you wouldn't want to be walking around with your best friend having a big ol' one hangin', would you now?.so talk to her, let her know you care...give her a gift of a travel size listermint or something NON-alcoholic...be a FRIEND, show her love...and ask that she look out for you too, besides, she's your best friend, ya'll is like sisters.peace.
It could be many things. Medication, an infection, gum disease, etc. If she's a close friend, tell her in private. Or gift her a tongue scraper. I use one w/a brush at one end and the scraper on another. Or give her Listerine strips, Altoids or some gum.
It's seems like all you would have to do is tell her, but I know that's hard to do. Especially if you guys have been friends for a while. She may wonder why you haven't said anything before.Just sit her down and be real about it. Make sure you let her know you are not trying to be mean, you are just lookin' out for ya girl. Maybe she does know, and it's an internal problem that she doesn't know how to fix. Remember the product Breath Assure? It was designed for people who have halitosis and brushing and mouthwash couldn't fix it. All too often, people assume that lack of good oral hygiene is the direct cause of bad breath, but there's a lot more to it than that.
