How do you tell someone that they have bad breath and not hurt their feelings?

There is this man that i work with in the office. He is 30. When ever i talk to him his breath makes me want to puke! Whenever he smiles though, his teeth are pearly white, but his gums are red and a little swollen. I REALLY want to tell him that he has bad breath and needs to get help with it, but I don't want to embaress him, or hurt his feelings. I think he is aware of his breath too, because he is always popping mints in his mouth. Help me please!
Answer:
It is quite common and as a railroad worker I encounter this a lot. First of all, you can leave them a note allowing them the privacy so that they are not offended. I use this method and it works for me. I do not place a name but leave it unsigned.Second if you take them aside as a friend and allow them to know you mean no disrespect then proceed with the information not to offend them but make them aware of such an offense then they will see it.Make sure you allow them to know that you had an incident yourself with that same problem and tell them how embarrassed you were.Tell them how someone told you in public and how it felt to be belittled by it. Tell them as a friend you are trying to have them avoid that same situation and not feel ashamed by it. Most people have reasons for being that way and some are just that way but if it is a serious matter it could be they have an infected tooth as well. You choose the method to inform them of such a thing and remember how would you feel if someone approached you?
Offer him a stick of gum or pull him aside and tell him in private.
Pull him aside to tell him. Preface your confrontation by saying the reason you are telling him is because you care and that you know he would be just as honest with you.
Give this a guy a tooth brush and some tooth paste then get him some mouth wash and a bunch of REALLY strong mints!
I would get a flyer from a dentist on gum disease and breath problems and soulutions and leave them around the office.
Maybe he would see them and take the hint.Oh and make sure no one sees you doing it!
if you think he already knows it would be rude to point it out. although I was once in the same situation and I talked about how horrible mine was one day and he chimed in commenting about himself.. that opened the door to talk about it with him.
Well be specific. tell him straight forward that his breath stinks... BUT IN A REALLY NICE WAY.
tell him something like: hey _____ can i be honest with u? I don't want to hurt your feelings, but and i'm doing this the best way i can think of to not hurt ur feelings as much as somebody else would, anyways your breath has a really bad odor to it. i just wanted to let u know so u wouldn't get hurt really bad to someone else who would just tell you what he feels.
Well he could have gingivitis, which makes your gums swollen and you get bad breathe. Take him somewhere it is just you and him. Ask him if he has a dental problem. If he says yes then give him these tips.1 brush your teeth morning nite and afternoon
2 tell him to use crest prohealth
3 floss before brushing
4 tell him he might want to get a new toothbrush. If he says no then tell him gently that he might want to go to the dentist. everyone deserves to know if they have a problem worth fixing. I was in the same position a couple of weeks ago. She ended up thanking me for telling her about it.

How do you tell if you have a cavity?

I just lost a baby tooth recently and the adult tooth behind it has a white circle on it .It doesn't hurt at all.Could it be my ceilings the dentist put on my back teeth?HELP!
Answer:
Go to the dentist! Get an x-ray!
You could always just as the dentist.
Ceilings? Do you mean sealants? Well cavities aren't white, just ask your dentist at the next visit.
Cavities hurt and are generally sensitive to cold.
I'm not sure what this is, but I cavity is a hole, so it's not one of those. Could it be a calcium deposit?
Usually it hurts (for instance when you drink sth cold or hot).
Go to the dentist to have a look.xxx
Cavities look like black holes on the teeth, if you had one I'm sure it would hurt if you eat sugary foods or if something was stuck in it.
If you have a cavity ask your dentist. If there is no dentist around were you live open your mouth in front of your mom or dad and ask them if they see any black spots or anything. If you are nervous then don't ask them. Does your tooth hurt at all? If so you have a cavity.
Hello:It's hard to say what you are looking at without evaluating your mouth/tooth. Yes, it could very well possibly be the sealant that your dentist placed.A cavity is an area of the tooth that has been broken down by the acids produced by the bacteria in your mouth. When the cavity is deeper it usually gives you a sensitive feeling to cold and sweets.Get a checkup --Brush, floss and rinse regularly -- keep your teeth clean-- You should do this regularly after every meal--if you are unable to brush after your meal at least rinse your mouth with water and then when you are able-- do a thorough job of brushing and flossing.
you should go to the dentist and have it looked at
A cavity will cause you pain. See your dentist soon.
when your up half the night howling like a "were" head for the dentist.
It is probably what we call a decalcified area. If it's located where I think it is, the baby tooth probably sat touching the molar in that area. It is a weak area of enamel and is in the first stages of becoming a cavity. My guess is that you weren't flossing between your teeth and the decay process started but hasn't become a full blown cavity. Usually a cavity is dark in color and can be sensitive to sweets and cold. If you do a super job of keeping it clean it probably won't get worse. Brush it for now and start a flossing habit. It will save you from cavities between your other teeth and this one later. Wouldn't hurt to let the dentist check it.
Most sealants are done on the top biting surfaces of the teeth where the deep grooves are located and are tooth colored and hard to spot.
Most likely what you are describing is what I like to call an "enamel bruise". Many times the enamel is disturbed during formation (several years back). Fevers, medications, lack of nutrition, too much fluoride ingested (yes, this happens). These spots generally are not a problem, but some may be weak areas. If you just lost the primary tooth, most likely it hasn't had time to get decayed. See your dentist and they can tell you for sure.
The Dentisty sees a hole
This is most likely a calcium spot - basically a deposit of calcium. nothing to worry about though it won't really fade. A cavity usually starts of as a smell hole that is brown and will turn black as it gets bigger.
Sealants are usually white in color and will only be in the middle of the tooth. A cavity is diagnosed by symptoms, not only appearance. If you were recently to the dentist and had x-rays, he/she would have mentioned it. If you are experiencing pain or sensitivity, I would see the dentist soon. But, I would guess that what you are seeing is the sealant recently placed. Hope that helps!!
it could be plaque starting to form around the teeth. i have a little bit of that on my teeth too. It's not a big deal really just make sure you brush really good.
Go and see your dentist.

How do you tell a guy that he needs to use mouthwash?

okay well my boyfriend has really stinky breathe. whenever he talks it makes me want to puke. how do i tell him that he really needs to use some mouthwash or start to brush his teeth?
Answer:
Well, maybe if you go out and buy him mouthwash and give it to him and say, "Hey, I bought this new mouthwash and I'm trying to get better dental hygiene so do you mind if we tried it together?" If he doesn't use it just break it to him and tell him that his breath smells and that you like him but it would really mean a lot to you if he freshened his breath.
every time he opens his skankey mouth have a certs ready. he will get the hint.
offer him some gum whenever you meet up
SAY YOUR BREATH STINKS GET IT SORTED BEST WAY
Give him mouthwash as a gift! Add a note that says "To make your mouth a little sweeter to kiss". Putting it in nicer way will help lessen the blow to his feelings and gives him the oral care he needs.
he needs to floss not just mouth wash... best way is to tell him with a sour look on your face, definitely tell him
How about saying "Wow! What have you been eating? You need another mint." every time you see him?Or, you could be honest and just tell him he needs to clean up his act.
Just be straight and up front. Break the ice on the topic by asking "did you just eat some ________?" If he is smart, he will take the hint and be more conscious about his breath, if not, try again by telling him that his breath is horrible. It may be a problem caused by tooth decay or gum disease - he may need to see a dentist.
One of the biggest causes of bad breath is not flossing. Breath mints are a quick fix but he needs to floss, floss, floss and brush his tongue when he brushes his teeth in the morning and at night to keep his breath fresh all the time. Keep offering him mints as he tries to get close and when he finally asks why you keep doing this tell him the problem and the solution. Tell him you love to be close, but his breath is making it really difficult for you. This was a problem my husband had and flossing really helped. But because he hadn't done it all of his life, he ended up with gum disease followed by oral surgery. Not fun!
lucky you.
it might be a buildup or calcified plaque, and it stinks!! you cant get rid of the smell even with mouth wash!
the next closest holiday include it in a delightful looking basket toiletries and mouthwash also tic tacs
He must have some redeeming features if you are still with him. So how about telling him he needs to brush his teeth more than once a week. If that doesn't work carry around a packet of mints and when ever he opens his mouth just pop one in. If this doesn't work you will just have to leave him.
with words
actually if he brushes his teeth, he might only need a tounge scraper. If he uses mouthwash and doesnt scrape his tounge (not with a toothbrush) all mouthwash will do is dry out his mouth which makes it even more of a breeding ground for bacteria. Bad breath mainly comes from a bacteria infested tounge.trust me!
sorry to be the one to tell you your breath stinks .
then as are we still friends.
if he is hurt and up set tell him love hurts

How do you tell a friend to brush their teeth without offending them?

i know of many ppl who dont brush their teeth, or if they do they have bad breath still. how doi tell them they stink?
Answer:
Your question bears out a social problem. I have the reputation of being a cagey kind of guy. So I can just say what's on my mind. However there are times when tact is required. Telling someone that their breath is offensive can create a lengthy and undesirable social rift. My approach is to mention someone else having the oral hygiene issues. You see we are all willing to talk about someone else. You say, "What's wrong with that poor dear, can't she see the sandwich and salad she is still carrying around in her teeth." The listener gets the idea that people really notice other peoples breath and will talk about it and that they need to check there own maintenance. That's if I don't feel like just saying, "dang Yo breaf sho du stank!"
Offer them some kind of mint or mint gum, saying its really good, and if they like it, buy them some.
Well just ask your friend if they looks after their teeth. If they do just advise them to use mouthwash .
convince them to eat gum after they eat.
there really is no way to do so with out offending them unfortunately, but you can offer them breath mints or gum
( have a piece yourself if you don't want to look too obvious) or IF you have a good relationship with this person mention it to them politely. It could be they are having health issues that cause the problem and they either do not realize the problem or are unable to control it. I have been in that position before and could walk around all day with a mouth full of mouthwash and still have bad breath ( I was soo happy to get over that issue!!)
I quess I would first have to ask if they have a favorite toothpaste? Ask which one and then let them know your tried that one and it left you having bad breath at least that's what your friends would tell ya. So your tried another brand name recommended by your dental hygenist. At that it showed great improvement, may they would like to try it?Just in case these people do brush here is an article about causes for bad breath etc. Share this as a casual conversation. And if you really feel bad about their personal brushing habits send them to the link below for low cost dental plans offering free dental exams etc. Good Luck!
Offer them a mint, gum or breath strips. Tell them it's new on the market and getting everyone's opinion. Listerine has some. When you brush after lunch, suggest they join you. Or if they are good friends, gift them a tongue scraper. It helps to get rid of the bad breath germs. Tell them you use it and love it. Or a new kind of brush or toothpaste. If you're not so close to them, mint or gums should do it. Good luck!

How do you stop tooth/gum sensitivity?

I was just at the dentist and had a cleaning. I was told that my gums are starting to receed and shown a proper way to floss. Even with the easy slide floss, it still hurts. It, too, takes so much time to floss. Is there a rinse or anything else I can do instead to get the plaque and to help with the receeding?
Answer:
Flossing is actually more important than brushing because nothing else will reach into those deeper gum spaces where the the gum infection gingivitis gets started. The floss is also the only way to access in between where the teeth contact to prevent cavities. I think of it like this - brushing your teeth is like washing your hands and flossing is like cleaning under your nails. Check out this website to view alternative products to help you floss - Like Crest Glide Dental Floss Picks, Reach Access flosser etc. http://www.drugstore.com/search/search.a...
My Dad doesn't floss and really loves Johnson and Johnson's Stimudents so you might try those. Rinses may help reduce plaque or inflammation, such as Listerine or Crest Pro Health but I wouldn't recommend Peridex because of the staining it causes and altered taste perception.
I wish I could give you a huge shortcut, but I don't have one. You do sound really motivated and that is great because dental health is related to total body health. Keep up the good work!
JAMRDH - a dental hygienist
There's a prescription mouthwash called Peridex that you can get from your dentist.
There are toothpicks like Stimudent or brush picks (a tiny brush on one side, a pick on the other) but it can damage your gums if not used properly, not fit, and still not as effective as floss. Another option is the WaterPik. But you have to be gentle or it can also damage your gums. Of course nothing replaces flossing but I've seen a lot of dentists offer this as a alternative. You can also put some mouthwash in it too. Brush gently and use a soft toothbrush. Depending on how far they have receeded, you can ask your doc about gum grafting. Where they take tissue from the roof of your mouth and graft it to the gum that's gone. The receeded gum will not come back like it was before. If you switch to a softer toothbrush, it'll stop it from receeding further and come back very, very slightly. I have the same thing and got a filling on the receeded tooth and will do the gum grafting later this year. Good luck

How do you stop a place where tooth was pulled to stop bleeding?

Answer:
A large piece of guaze folded into a square and placed directly on the site, then clamp down the jaw to hold it in place. Then return to the dentist for proper treatment. The site should have a large clot at the jawbone to prevent postoperative bleeding, and if it has been lost you will need to have something else done to control the bleeding and guard against infection. If you do not have guaze, any clean cotton cloth will work, such as a handkerchief or washrag, strip of cotton t-shirt if it comes to it- so long as it is clean. But then you need immediate attention from your dentist.
Get gauze and roll it up and put it in place of the tooth. If you dont haev any gauze handy, try and find a tea bag. There is soemthing in them that helps the bleeding. If the bleeding persists then you should call your dentist.
the tea bag should work. it helps to clot the blood, and the pressure helps too. get it a little bit damp with warm water first, then "bite" on it for at least 1 hour. you can also apply a cold pack to the outside of the cheek where the tooth was removed. this helps slow down the blood flow to the area.
Take some gauze and fold it several times and bite down on it, it should stop bleeding if not contact your dentist
Place Cold Gauze Soaked With ICY Cold WATER! On Top Of Where The Tooth Was Pulled!Soak The Gauze With ICY Cold Water and Lay Down!
DO NOT MOVE AROUND FOR ABOUT TWO HOURS!
Keep Your Tougue Out Of The Tooth Socket!
Go To The Emergency Room If Bleeding Does Not Stop!
May Need Stitches! Can Be INFECTION!
gause folded up put in the area, and bite down on it to apply pressure, if you dont have that you can use a couple cotton balls, or a soft cloth. keep it in your mouth for a couple minutes(about 5-15min) then check to see if the bleeding slowed if it dont slow down go to a doctor, it may need stitches, or something.
It depends on the situation Did the dentist pull an adult tooth? Rinse mouth with soda water. Put gauze in hole.
On the first day, gauze-pressure
On the second day, rinse with salt water.Don't suck through a straw or cigarette, or suck in your cheeks (like you might before swallowing). It can pull the blood clot back out and it will continue to bleed until another clot can form.Hope it helps, I just recently went through it myself. Might want to have pain killers and Origel or Ambisol on hand.
While i agree with the measures posted here, observation should be made if they are successful. If these measures do not control the bleeding you must go see your dentist. Commonly, the cause of post-operative bleeding it something left within the extraction site and therefore interferes with clotting. sometimes it is caused by undue trauma to the area or an area of sharp bone that hasn't been smoothened. In rare occasions it is because of an inherent problem with the blood that prevents it from clotting. Some medications may also prevent clotting of blood
Ok...forget everything you were just told here...I have pulled thousands of teeth..here is what you need to do:Keep gauze on it for 30 minutes...bite down on it...don't talk, don't be moving around...sit and let it work...After 30 minutes, take it out and put another piece in for another 30 minutes...take this out...it is normal to "ooze" blood for the next 24 hours or so..don't brush that area when you brush your teeth...don't use mouthrinse, don't smoke, such through straws or pick at the area...The bleeding will subside..

How do you repair your gums rom dip?

i just recently quit dipping or chewing tobacco? How can i repair my gum?
Answer:
Yikes! But I am glad to hear you have quit.Get HYDROGEN PEROXIDE AT THE DRUG STORE.Gently brush your teeth and gums with it once or twice a day. It is amazing in healing sore, bleeding or damaged gums.Congratulations. Girls will like you better now.
You might try brushing your teeth with baking soda everyday and see if that don't help you out. I know that kills all kinds of bacteria. My mom uses it every day instead of tooth paste and has for years.
Book an appt with the dentist. They'll see what needs attention. If there is a gum issue, best to have them look it over. You don't want to ignore it. If it's gum disease, your doc may recommend a deep cleaning or another treatment. For now, continue to brush for 2 mins with a soft bristle brush and floss daily.

How do you remove the teeth staining caused by anti-biotics?

iwas put on a 2 month course of anti-biotics (acnamino mr 100mg) for a finger that had been infected with fish tank granuloma 2 years ago. the week before i finished i noticed that some of my front teeth and most of my nails look gray and dirty. how do i get my teeth clean again.?
Answer:
Try Crest Whitestrips, they do a great job .
You should let it clear up by itself. Going to the dentist to whiten can be very expensive and they grey dirty look can come back. So my advice is to let it be for a couple of weeks and see what happens. If no improvement, see your doctor or dentist. You may be able to get it cleaned by the NHS or if you are under 18 and in full time education. Hope this helps.Am I right in saying you have acne? Also make sure you are not pregnant as these antibiotics are not good for the foetus.
apart from brushing twice a day with glister toothpaste, i would suggest you try the glister mouthfreshner which has removed the teeth stains for me.. talking from my personal experience here. if it helps good otherwise please ignore this.
Hi,go to the dentist for a clean %26 polish that might do the trick.Good Luck

How do you pull out a loose tooth with little to no pain?

Answer:
If your baby tooth is very loose, you can use an anesthetic cream from your pharmacy (example Orajel), put some on the gum around it, and then pull it.That is called self-dental extraction. http://www.studiodentaire.com/en/treatme...
wiggle it
.YANK!!
Drink a bottle of Seagrams 7 first.
let if fall out by itself. If its still attatched to anything its gonna hurt.
Let the dentist do it.
Needle-nose pliers.
bit down on a suga daddy then open your mouth realy quick works =] Good luck!
wiggle at it until it breaks off or pulls out. why pull it out? it will come out when it's ready
1. Get a long piece of high quality string
2. Tie the string around the tooth with a knot and then around a door knob
3. Have someone slam the door as hard and fast as possible and the tooth will come outNote - this is just a suggestion and something that worked for me, make sure the tooth is very loose first
swish cayenne in your mouth. It sounds painful, but it isn't. Take it from me, I hate pain! cayenne shuts off the pain receptors.
Eat a piece of bread and make sure you chew with the tooth that you want to come out. Be sure not to swallow the bread!
get some clove candies(i know Craker Barrel sells them) suck on it till its gone. Clove numbs your mouth. Then also rub alot of oragel around the loose tooth then wiggle wiggle wiggle and try to get it out. My husband got mine out with lottle pain and He wiggled it till it was more loose then he pushed it as far as it would go to one side then it came out but he had to push hard!
loosen it up with salt and bourbon
First, get a little hammered, then try the plier or string or taffy trick. But why not just chew some gum and pack behind the tooth and against it's neighbors. That will help stabilize the tooth until it comes out on its own! If this is a little kid, my mom used to dip her finger in brandy, wipe it on the gum around the tooth, then yank with her fingers! Ahhh...the good old days! Good luck!
Baseball and a soft pitch to you.
Wait for the tooth to get pretty loose. Then, grab it with your index finger and thumb. Twist the tooth for a little bit. You will feel when it starts to come free. When you are doing this, you want to be standing over a sink so that the blood won't get on the floor (the amount of blood that comes out depends on how long you wait to pull it out). Make sure that you have a cup next to you so that you can put water in your mouth and swish it around in your mouth to get all the blood out.
oh come on pulling teeth is easier than pulling a hair out of ur body .. just grab hold of it nicely carefully pull it out in a one go ... u should only do this if its ur first teeth (baby teeth) and a little wobbly .. dont try it on adult teeth !!
There will be no pain at all, because your dentist will first numb you. Because the tooth is already loose, it should go very quick -- as little as ten seconds. You'll probably be given a prescription for a pain killer (Vicodin) for when the anesthetic wears off. I've had maybe four extractions over the years and NEVER felt the least pain either during the procedure or after. Don't worry.

How do you prevent morning breath?

Answer:
I dont know how to prevent it but brush your teeth then use mout wash for about 1 min to rid it.
You dont.
Brush your teeth at night. You can also use MouthWash before you go to bed and dont eat or drink anything after you take it or it defeats the purpose.
you can try brushing you gums and tongue as well as the teeth and see if it helps
Brush and floss your teeth at least 2 times a day (morning AFTER breakfast and before bed after eating ) ALSO brush your tongue with a DRY toothbrush or tongue scraper/brush.
A tongue is like a sponge and it soaks up everything you eat and collects on your tongue. So you need to brush it off daily to help improve your breath. Also brush your inside of your cheeks.
Die in your sleep.
drink water before you sleep
You probably breathe through your mouth on a night.
If you feel really adventurous, you could tape your mouth with micropore tape. Try a small piece vertically in the middle to start with, then once happy you can tape the lot.
Sounds scary, but I do it as part of my Buteyko breathing excercises.
I would suggest checking with medical experts first.
brush and floss at bedtime, that will help. But the morning breath is cause by the bacteria in your mouth. and it is present all the time. best thing to do is brush, floss and use mouth wash first thing when you get upalso eating smelly foods like garlic will make morning breath worse.
Get up in the afternoon.
HELLO,
NOBODY CAN PREVENT HAVING MORNING BREATH, AND ANY ADVISE ANYONE GIVES YOU TO TREAT IT OR PREVENT IT WILL NOT WORK.
Bad breath is intensified when have not had enough water to drink. Your morning breath will be slightly less atrocious if you drink plenty of water throughout the day and before you sleep. But if you drink a whole lot right before you go to sleep, you'll have to wake up more often to get up and visit the John:)
chewing gum.

How do you pay for braces...when you have no money?

I've a gap between my two front teeth and a few others at the bottom. My parents think braces are obviously expensive and can't afford them. We have a dental plan but it doesn't cover braces. I've a friend who got braces for $5000 along with her sister who got hers for $3000. Her sister's teeth were a bit similar to mine -from what I heard (only her spaces were much bigger than mine). So I'm hoping I can get them for about that price, but I know every case is different, so if not I'll still get them anyway. I'm just wondering...how do you pay for braces if you don't have the money? I know it sounds like a dumb question, but I know there must be alternatives to help pay for them. I'm in school, so I also have student loans to worry about. But fixing my teeth right now for my confidence is my top priority. I'm looking for a summer job, which isn't easy, but I'm hopeful. I'm in Canada, so anyone who's also in Canada and has suggestions, pls let me know. Your views are much appreciated!!
Answer:
Well. the only way you can find out the price is actually getting a workup done.. Where they do x-rays and molds on your teeth, I dont know if there is an Apple Ortho there in Canada but here in the U.S I herd their work ups are free.. They give you a price and if you dont have the money then you can do payments over the full treatment.. SO lets say they tell you it will take 2 years. and it will cost $3500 then then that $3500 will be divided in two years... It can come up to about $100-$200 a month depending on how much it will cost you and how much you put as a down payment.. I got braces about 5 months ago.. and mine was $3500, my cousin just got braces and his was $4000 so it really depends on the severity of your case... You also have to have healthy teeth, no cavities and no problems at all.. Your teeth go thru a large amount of pressure and pain.. and they need to be healthy and in great condition to be able to stand it.. If that amount still sounds way out of your range then try going to dental schools.. they offer dental treatment with a big discount.. basically its dentist who is training and are supervised by a senior dentist... They monitor everything so you are in good hands.. if you did go down that route... good luck.. ive wanted braces for years... since i was a young teenager.. and now that I am an adult I was finally able to afford them.. If fixing your teeth is a top priority then get a summer job and help your parents do the payments... im sure you can easily.. come up with $150 a month for your soon to be beautiful smile..
Maybe your parents will help you out to get your bracesHoped I helped
I just got them. I begged and begged for them. It took forever for us to get the money... and all i have to say about braces is. RUN AWAY! RUN FAR FAR AWAY! I got them because of gaps... and they hurt like hell. No one said anything about this much pain... so run while you can still eat!
beg or pray don't steal try working %26saving for them have yard sale
Well for starters...My Ortho is in Mtl. Most Ortho will not have you pay the whole amount straight foward. I had to put up $1000 up front and finance the rest of installement on my credit card or pay cash for $150 or $174 for the rest...my ortho doesnt charge any interest. So they're financing option available. You can have a part time job to pay it off monthly

How do you make your teeth whiter?

Answer:
Crest White Strips. They have the ones that you wear for ONLY 5 minutes a day. You start to see results in about a week!!
One very simple way is to rinse your mouth with hydrogen peroxide for a minute. Do this about 4X per day. Make sure you rinse with warm water afterwards.
My mom says that if you brush your teeth with mashed up strawberries it will whiten them. Also brush them regularly with your toothpaste. Once a day is good. Twice is better.
I just did the Zoom whitening inmy Dentist Office, and I am happy with the color, but am unhappy with the amt of pain im in.

How do you know if you have halitosis?

i think my friend has halitosis, her breath is horrible, and it has been like that for as long as i can remember, i cant stand to be close to her, or facing her when we are talking because her breath is HORRIBLE! its like she doesnt even know, how can she not know her breath is super bad!?
how do i know if she has halitosis or not? and how can i tell her about her breath?
Answer:
Carry a pack of Trident sugarless gum with you, and when you take out a piece to chew, offer a stick to your friend. Hopefully your friend will take the hint. :-D
a true friend will tell her, and a truer friend will listen and not be offended...talk to her, and set up a code.my gf and I had codes for almost everything.bad breath, I love garlic and onions, or if we had coffee, it would be, "GOT GUM?".and she would get us both a piece of gum...she never knew unless I told her, and I figured if hers does, then mine does too, and we would thank each other...we got this one from "Yes Dear" re-runs, when the kid said, "You got bats in the cave!"...so, when we went out, before we went in stores, we did a check...heck, you wouldn't want to be walking around with your best friend having a big ol' one hangin', would you now?.so talk to her, let her know you care...give her a gift of a travel size listermint or something NON-alcoholic...be a FRIEND, show her love...and ask that she look out for you too, besides, she's your best friend, ya'll is like sisters.peace.
It could be many things. Medication, an infection, gum disease, etc. If she's a close friend, tell her in private. Or gift her a tongue scraper. I use one w/a brush at one end and the scraper on another. Or give her Listerine strips, Altoids or some gum.
It's seems like all you would have to do is tell her, but I know that's hard to do. Especially if you guys have been friends for a while. She may wonder why you haven't said anything before.Just sit her down and be real about it. Make sure you let her know you are not trying to be mean, you are just lookin' out for ya girl. Maybe she does know, and it's an internal problem that she doesn't know how to fix. Remember the product Breath Assure? It was designed for people who have halitosis and brushing and mouthwash couldn't fix it. All too often, people assume that lack of good oral hygiene is the direct cause of bad breath, but there's a lot more to it than that.

How do you know if you have a cavity?

I'm not sure if it's a cavity on some back molars or if it's just darkened. They dont hurt or anything.. And if they are cavities what happens if i do not go to the dentist? I've heard they can spread, but what happens if they spread?
Answer:
A dentist will look for caries at each office visit, regardless of whether it is a routine visit or an appointment made by the patient because of pain. The dentist will examine the teeth visually and will probe the teeth with an instrument called an explorer to determine if there are pits or areas of damage. Periodically, or if the dentist suspects hidden caries, X-rays will be taken by looking at the teeth.
the sooner you go, the better chance of fixing problems
If you have any pain. you should go see your dentist. You better call soon, there could be a wait.
Sensitivity to hot, cold or a tap on the tooth
It is not always obvious to a patient if they have a cavity. You should see your dentist routinely and they will visually check your mouth and take xrays to see if you have any decay. Some cavities start below old filling and they often go un noticed by patients. Some patients will have some symptoms though and most often with decay the sensitivity is to sweet things. If you don't go to the dentist then the cavity will get so deep that it will touch the nerve in your tooth and then instead of just another filling you will need a root canal and then a crown.
Decay can spread but that would usually take some time to do that. Well and if that happens ...you will need more then one tooth filled!!

How do you know if the hygienist removed all the calculus buildup from teeth during cleaning?

.Because I still feel a little ridge around a couple teeth while flossing..i.e., not a totally smooth flossing (but maybe it's the structure of the tooth?).
Answer:
I know you actually meant calculus and yes it is a word in the dental field as well as in math. If you still feel a little ridge when flossing, chances are she didn't do a good job. You can only get this confirmed by another dentist or hygienist and report it to your dental insurance. Or you can go back to the dentist and demand the work being done properly since you probably already paid for it. You can also report them to the BBB or Dental Association.
I don't think it's the structure of the tooth. Teeth don't have any ridges in between unless there is something wrong with them like cavities. But if you're not sure get a 2nd opinion.
I think you mean Calcium? Calculus is a type of Math.
Well, it's simple. Ask the hygienist to use the oral mirror to show you where he or she has clean. Usually it is the back teeth that has hidden calculus. Hope the info helps.Regards,

If your breath smells like logarithms or sine functions she missed some.
You can also have an x-ray to show calculus/tartar build-up under the gum tissue. Our hygienist when treating patients for scaling and root-planing, will take a before and after x-ray to check her work. She wants and does a good job. Not only that, Dr. Joe checks the quality of her work during the exam.

How do you gleak?

gleaking is when you move your tounge in your mouth and it squirts out saliva
Answer:
To Gleak...
To emit a long shot of spit from underneath your tongue. Gleaking can range from a distance of a few inches to a few feet (usually 7 feet). Gleaking is usually inherited genetically and cannot be learned.

There is a saliva gland under the tongue called the Sublingual gland. When you move your tongue just right it causes this glad to excrete saliva. and there you have it! Gleaking in a nutshell! =)
with my tongue
practice, people still do that? i cant anymore my tongue is pierced...
acording to you,, "you move your tounge in your mouth and it squirts out saliva" easy as that Robby the Emo
that's funny i learned that in middle school when i got gleaked on the back of the neck...Eat or chew something sour and push your tongue forward onto your upper and lower teeth pushing the saliva through them ...
I wish I knew how to do it, then I would know how to stop doing it. I can't stop doing it, it jsut happens. Sometimes I gleek clear across the room and hit people with it. It is embarrassing!

How do you get that white stuff that grows on your tongue away?

I don't know what its called, but its really gross, how do you get rid of it?
Answer:
It's basically bacteria (and bacterial by-products -- yuk) that break down the nutrients still clinging to your tongue after you eat. Helps bring exciting new varieties to one's breath, too. After you brush your teeth, rinse, then gently brush the top of your tongue. (Not too hard, or you can give your tongue sores, instead.) Use a motion like you're sweeping crumbs off the table, rinse, and repeat a few times. Do this **every time** you brush, and after few days you should start noticing some improvement.By accident I recently discovered that drinking a little 100% grape juice after dinner helps to reduce the amount of gunk that's on my tongue when I brush before bedtime. I'm not sure why it works, though, and for some reason wine doesn't seem to have the same effect.
mouth wash b4 you brush then brush your tongue after your teeth
tongue scraper.you can find it in any drug store.
Brush your teeth then brush your tongue rinse it and then gargle any mouthwash. I prefer the mouthwash that don't have any color in it so it will not stain your teeth. Remember do it for the rest of your life.
When brushing your teeth give your tongue a wee brush aswell, then use a mouthwash. I use Listerine mouthwash which is really good.
Hi the white coating on the tongue is usually from the stomach not digesting properly.. Avoid sugars and reduce stress try to make your body more alkaline instead of acidic... Also I will use grapefruit seed extract to gargle with its found at health stores and is effective . However its very bitter so I will brush my mouth afterwards again..
Use a tongue scraper. I use one w/a brush on one end and a scraper. Instead of brushing just up and down, gently brush in a few directions then scrape. If I eat a lot of junk food, I get the white tongue. If it doesn't work, it might be an infection. Best to see a doc then. Good luck!

How do you get rid of ulcers in your mouth?

Answer:
Swish with a salt water rinse. Or if you can handle it, you can put the salt directly on the ulcer.Another thing you can do is mix 陆 peroxide and 陆 mouthwash solution together. Please don't put the peroxide straight into your mouth as it is strong and can purn your oral tissue. By mixing the both together, you are diluting the peroxide and flavoring the peroxide because it taste horrible! This will clean and help to heal the ulcer faster. When rinsing with this solution, it will bubble alot. Continue to rinse with it until you can't keep the bubbles in your mouth any longer. You can also use a spice called Alum, which you can usually get at the gracery store, it is used for pickling. Put al little of it into the ulcer and keep it there for about 5 minutes or so, then rinse it off. It will hurt at first. Within 2 days it is usually gone.
It depends on the under lying cause of the ulcer. Is it painful? if it is then the possible causes are trauma and viral infections. In the case of trauma just keep it clean and it will resolve itself. in a after a day it shoul feel better. Most viral infections resolve by themselves as well but may take a week or two to do so. Painless ulcers that persist for mor than two weeks may require professional attention and may need to be biopsied.

How do you get rid of toothache pain?

My husband had a sleepless night b/c his tooth was in soo much pain. He has this shooting pain that bothers him like crazy. He's such in a miserable mood. Please help me. Any suggestions for temporary relief before he goes to the dentist.
Answer:
My dad had a sharp pain like that in his tooth a while ago as well, and he bought a gel that helped numb the pain when he applied it to his tooth. Not sure what the name of it is, but I'm sure you can probably pick it up at a drug store or a supermarket.
Has he tried Oragel, hot compresses, and a BC powder or Extra Strength Tylenol? I know this has helped me in the past until I could get to the dentist. I would put on the Oragel, make a hot compress, and take a BC powder or Extra Strength Tylenol every four hours and it would help with the pain. The oragel and hot compresses really help also. Hope this helps and good luck.
i really dont no im so sorry the things that help take toothache away is a special mouth wash the dentist gives you. I tell you wat you can do is go into any pharmasy and ask them what the toothache medicine i.e pills, mouthwash but tell him to get to the dentist asoon as posible good luck send my regards.
Oh I feel for him and you. My husband went through this 2yrs ago. He had severe pain in one of his bottom teeth. The pain would go from his tooth right up into his ear. Was really bad. He tried to use Orajel and Ambesol. These only made it worse. They made the tooth infected. He ended up at the ER and they admitted him right away. He had surgery that same night. The doctor came out of surgery when it was done and told me that if I hadn't brought him in when I did, he would have died from the poison going into his blood from the tooth infection. You should not wait until he sees the dentist. He may need antibiotics and pain relievers from a doctor. You need to take him to your local Emergency Room for help. They will give him something for the pain. Good luck and don't wait!!
see a dentist
He could have a cavity. It happened to me once. Ask the doctor. Or use a pain relief medicine like Tylenol.
Well I was dealing with the same thing, sort a. What I am saying is, I had a tooth ache for about a mouth before I got the nerve to call and make the appointment (I am scared to death of a dentist). So I used Kanka, you can get it at Wal-Mart where all the medicines for toothaches are at. It works very fast and last for awhile. Been to my dentist now, on pain medicine and antibiotic, the tooth has to come out. So I am still using it in between times for my pain pill. It comes in a small bottle with a blue cap on it. I think it works great as it is so fast. And you can use it as often as you need to. There is one that has the "dropper" and one that has a soft brush with it. I use both of them. They are not really that expensive either. I have used Orajel as well but Kanka worked faster, longer and better for me.Hope this helped you out.
Get to the dentist as soon as possible.I can tell you how to get rid of the pain until he gets help. The hint comes from a Chinese-Canadian dentist who uses the method instead of freezing for all dental work.
Pinch the earlobe on the side where the pain is and it will disappear within 10 minutes. (The dentist attaches a clothes peg to the earlobe.) A tight-fitting clip-on earring will also do the trick. It has to be tight, and it has to be continuous.
Acupuncture in the same spot would help, too, of course.
As a dentist myself I highly recommend that your husband see your regular dentist as soon as possible. If the pain is severe you might consider trying your dentist's emergency number or even a trip to your local emergency room as the doctor or dentist may need to prescribe you some antibiotics and stronger pain medications. A severe toothache can be caused by a number of things as simple as a cavity to the more severe like an abscessed tooth. Your husband should try Motrin as this will help with pain and inflammation and try using COLD compresses, do NOT use heat because if the tooth is abscessed the heat can cause the infection to spread to the throat causing airway obstructions and can also spread to the heart and brain. See your regular dentist as soon as possible to discuss treatment options.

HOw do you get rid of internal teeth stains?

i've had internal stains on my teeth since i was three and now i am thirteen and how can i get them to go away
Answer:
internal stains do not come off. There are a number of reasons for the stains. High fever when you were a baby and your adult teeth were forming, to much fluoride (fluorosis) Some medications and vitamins given to you when you were young could also have caused it. The only way to have it fixed is to have veneers or crowns placed on the teeth.
Sorry my dear... they won't go away.. it is called decalnation... it comes from lack of calcium
Internal stains on the teeth can be caused by a variety of things, Hyopcalcification ( lack of enamel being laid down), hypercalcification ( extra enamel being laid down), fluorosis (exposure to too much fluoride when the teeth were forming), medications like tetracycline just to name a few. You are going to have to cover them. ask your dentist about Lumineers, or regular veneer, and in more dramatic cases were the tooth is compromised you may be looking into crowns. Visit your dentist to see which is best for you and always get a second opinion, some dentists may not be trained in all procedures! You should probably wait to do anything until you are done growing though!

How do you get rid of gum immflamation with braces?

i have a cold sore so i cant use the warm salt water trick ...
Answer:
Gum inflammation is normal with braces, and the best way to treat it is to brush well, floss, use warm salt water rinses and use an anti-inflammatory pain medication such as Advil (ibuprofen). You should be fine using the warm salt water rinse with the cold sore! When you are brushing, be sure to angle properly to get under your gumline - not only is it proper brushing, but it really does help the inflammation caused by the brackets and pressure of the orthodontia. If you are doing all of this and the inflammation persists or worsens, please talk to your orthodontist.
talk to your orthodontist for advice
Why can't you use warm salt water with a cold sore? You sure can use warm salt water. You also need to brush your gums more and if the infammation continues see your orthodontist.
The best way is to brush you teeth and massage your gums, after each meal, use dental floss an night and also you can use warm water with salt as a mouth wash, it does wonders with the swelling
drink hot lemon juice with honey
Sonicare has a new Xtreme e3000 battery-powered toothbrush with a 2-minute timer. It whitened my teeth and improved my gums after just a couple of days. Much more effective than most manual toothbrushes, I think. Can be used with braces. $30 at Wal-mart.

How do you get rid of garlic breath? (Even after brushing my teeth and tounge and using mouthwash)?

I love to top my pizza with garlic powder and crushed red peppers. I've tried chewing gum, eating candy, brushing my teeth and using mouthwash but the garlic taste is STILL in my mouth.
Answer:
chew on parsley. it works! although not always readily available!
anis seeds
Try chewing on a lemon peel.
Chew a bit of parsley! Seriously, it's the only way to get rid of garlic breath... ever wondered why it's there on garlicy dishes when ya eat out?! Not just to look pretty :oP
Xx~xX
chew some parsley
It help getting the bad breath away
You can't. You have to wait for it to go away. The trick is to make sure your date / SO has as much Garlic as you do, that way neither of you can smell it.
Try eating some dry bread.Parsley is really good too.A fellow garlic lover
eat parsley, or cardamom
A friend of mine who is a great cook told me to try lemon juice. I would cut up fresh garlic and the smell would stay under my nails for days. No matter how much I washed my hands. If you can stand it, try gargling some lemon juice. Have you tried mouth wash already? I'm assuming you have, but I would try mouth wash before the lemon juice. But it normally got the smell from underneath my nails.
chew on a coffee bean.
try chewing on a few springs of parsley, or chew on fresh mint, or drink a glass of hot mint tea. instead of brushing your tongue with toothpaste try scraping your tongue. do this by putting toothpaste on tongue and scrape on roof of mouth.
use more mouthwash. alot.
The garlic odor gets in your blood and is breathed out from your lungs. Seriously. If you don't want garlic breath, you need to stop eating it. Simple as that.
Before you eat garlic there are special capsules that have oils inside that you swallow and then after you finish eating take some more. They are natural without any harmful chemicals!:)

How do you get rid of dark/purple/black gums?

I have yellow teeth and am wondering, how to get rid of the dark gums. Are there any remedies that i can use.
Answer:
I don't think there's anything you can do about your gums, but there are a lot of at home teeth bleaching kits available. Once you whiten your teeth, your darker gums might actually make your teeth seem even more vibrant and glorious!BTW...all you folk who aren't paying attention...I think Jackeeee might be African-American and it's not terribly unusual for African Americans to have darker gums. It doesn't mean they have mouth rot...
ummm sounds like you have a really sever issue and you need to go see the dentist. It could be several issues ie infections, gingavitis, or your teeth are bad. I would suggest getting in to the destist ASAP
From your picture you look black, and all black people have dark gums...duh-BobbiLynn MayPS- So, I guess then that woud be it, I would suggest cutting them out
you need to brush w/ baking soda and peroxide mixed, trust this i have pretty white straight teeth all my life, just everyday mix a capfull of baking soda and peroxide and use as a toothpaste every day, this will work , it will turn your gums pink by getting that icky film of gooo off your gums which will eventually peel off and then this will whiten your teeth as well.good luck..
well if you're dark skinned, then your gums are supposed to be that color. but if you're white/light skinned, then you should get them checked out. because I'm dark skinned(chocolate complexion), and i have really dark brown gums. so it might just be your skin complexion.
As far as I know, the pigmentation in your gums is permanent and cannot be altered. I'm sure the yellow coloring of your teeth make it more obvious. I'd say try a whitening method and that should make the color of your gums less noticeable. My gums are "spotty" with dark colors as well- I'm guessing its genetic because my mom and sis are the same way. My smile isnt wide enough for people to see, but they've always been that way since I was a kid. Try to whiten your teeth to see if that helps. Good luck.
You need to go to a dentist. You probably have periodontal gum disease. If you want to procrastinate on the dentist all you can do is to brush your teeth with a good toothpaste like Colgate or Crest AT LEAST twice a day taking at least 2 minutes usually a circular motion on each tooth as you brush. Also, make sure you floss daily between your teeth.
Your gums are dark because they are unhealthy; its that simple. Your teeth are yellow because of age and/or stains/ lack of brushing.
Unless it is natural pigmentation, that darkness is usually buildup underneath the gums b/c it has been so long since you had a cleaning. Once the buildup goes below the gumline it turns black instead of yellow and as it build the blackness will creep above the gumline. If this is the case, the only way to get rid of it is a cleaning. You are probably going to need a deep cleaning (cleaning below the gum line). It is a more invasive cleaning, sometimes they numb you for it. Otherwise, you will lose the bone that surrounds your teeth slowly until the teeth get loose. You probably already have some bone loss if the buildup is to this point. Go to the dentist before it is too late.
If your gums have always been that color, there's not much you can do. If they've just recently changed colors, I would see the dentist to rule out gum disease or anything that might be irritating your gums. Like a new toothpaste, mouthwash, or smoking. Good luck!

How do you get rid of a toothache?

My next dentist appointment is in a week and I've had a toothache for the last four days. I seriously think that it would hurt less to yank the tooth out, and I've tried, mind you. It's not really a shooting pain, it's a like a constant sore. I know it's due to a deep cavity that I had filled in, and I'm definately going to get a root canal. So far to get rid of some of the pain, I've been taking pain killers and using hot water. Is there anything else I could use right now at my home?
Answer:
I use Red Cross Toothache drops. They contain oil of clove which is very good for eliminating toothache pain.
call the dentist see if you can get in on an emergency appt or at least get some good pain meds...
I agree about the 'Red Cross' toothache kit. I actually just bought some today. I have an infected tooth that started yesterday, it's numbing it pretty well. Tastes AWFUL and be careful not to sallow but it does work. Also, pure vanilla extract helps with pain but doesnt last as long as the Red Cross.

How do you get chewing gum off of clear retainers?

i acdentally got gum on my retainers and i have tried to use penunt butter but it wont work.
Answer:
freeze the gum
try putting it in the freezer for a few minutes, then chip it off..
Buy some Goo Gone (sold at Walmart, with the paint thinners, etc or hardware stores). It's made for removing gum, adhesive... Just make sure to wash your retainer really well before using it again.
I heard a myth about putting coke on it because its so acidic.
You could try.
Or let it dry out and it should become like a rock and get some nail clippers and cut it off.
Heather M is exactly correct! Do not freeze the retainer or use abrasives, solvents or clippers as you may do damage to the retainer. Use the Goo B Gone, it does work. Don't chew gum with your retainer in place anymore. Good luck!

How do you get canker sores or mouth sores? my b/f smokes cigars and i read they can ccause mouth sores too?

Answer:
they are cause by the Herpes Simplex 2 virus, the virus lies dormant in the nerve tissue of the lips and mouth, when your immune system is stressed it triggers an outbreak. There is no cure. be carefull not to spread it or contact those who have an active outbreak
Sometimes canker sores are a sign of you are not getting enough vitamins. Try eating more carrots and things like that.

How do you get bad taste out of your throat?

I recently had my wisdom teeth removed (thursday) and the antibiotic i have to take smells and tastes absolutely disgusting. I wouldn't complain about it though if the taste dissipated. It's been stuck in my throat for 4 days. It's not really my breath, but everything I eat tastes like it. I can't stand it. Please help!
Answer:
Listerine. Gargle and also brush your tongue a few times daily. Warm the Listerine or make sure it's not cold or cool so that you will not experience pain from your surgery. I had all four wisdom teeth removed and my jaw reset. I had the same issue and that's what the surgeon recommended. The bad taste and smell is the dried blood and pus that comes with the healing process. Hope it helps. Good Luck.
This may not sound inviting as well, but drink a tablespoon of baking soda mixed in with a small glass of water. You have to work your way up toward a better taste
drink a glass of orange juice when you take the antibiotic

How do you get a cavity?

Answer:
You get a cavity as food debris and bacteria cause the breakdown of the enamel of teeth. Once this breakdown occurs the decay will continue deeper into the tooth's stricture until it is treated. Proper brushing and flossing and the use of a fluoride mouthwash will help prevent cavities.
I think the sugar makes the hole in the teeth .
eat junk food
No good oral hygene
Bad hygiene or the lack of. See a Dentist.
cavities are produced in as little as 24 hours. if you allow old sugar and food to rot and sit on your teeth, the acid will begin to dig a hole in your enamel. If something isn't done about a cavity, it could spread into the root. this is why flossing is so important. love, Cinderella
Acid forming bacteria. They grow from the last meal you ate in your mouth and their poop is the acid. The acid corrodes your tooth enamel until they get inside your tooth and have a field day eating the insides of your tooth.
eating to much sugar, poor dental hygiene, some people get them from medications they take.
Well, if you don't take care of your teeth, then the enamel can basically decay..in other words in weakens and thus you get a cavity. Also if you eat an abundance of sugar it is bad for your teeth as well.
SWEETS!..and sometimes maybe bacteria, but definetly alot of sugar. Watch out for it. Try to avoid the pain by cutting down sugars, or even getting sugarless gum if you're a gum lover.
by not brushing and flossing everyday after each meal .also by eating sugar produts b4 bed without brushing..you need to get a dental cleaning once a year
You can get a cavity by not brushing your teeth and eating lots of candy / junk food / sodas ect. By not taking care of them !!
When you eat and drink there are acids that rots your teeth so that is why brushing and flossing is always good.
If you don't brush your teeth, eat junk like candy and soda.
It's a simple equation: sugary food + bacteria on the teeth produces acid. The acid eats away at the surface of the tooth to cause a hole and the decay process has begun. You can't eliminate alll sugary food from your life (even milk has lactase and fruit has fructase) and you also can't eliminate all of the bacteria in your mouth, we are humans and we have bacteria all over and in our bodies that usually don't cause problems. BUT, you need to decrease the amount of bacteria by brushing and flossing regularly (brush at least 2 x day and floss once a day) and also you need to choose wisely regarding the form of sugar you choose. A glass of grape juice is a better choice than a chewy granola bar because the juice doesn't spend much time in contact with the teeth since you sip and swallow pretty quickly. Chewy, sticky sweets will remain in your mouth longer and have more time to allow the acid to form. I won't tell you to avoid all sugar, it's just not gonna happen! But I will advise you to brush after eating sugary foods and if you can't get to a toothbrush, at the very least, rinse your mouth out with water. That will help readjust your mouths pH level to a more neutral level that doesn't allow for the bacteria to thrive as well.
Hope that helps!

How do you floss YOUR teeth?

ok ... do you brush then floss?.
or... do you floss then brush?.I brush my teeth then i floss them and then i will brush them again...how do you do it?.
and why?
Answer:
brush floss brush
You should floss, then brush. Or, you may brush, floss, then rinse with water. The reason being, that flossing gets the food and bacteria out between your teeth. You do not want to brush excessively, like you're saying you do. That is extremely hard on the enamel of your teeth. And once the enamel is worn away, it's gone. There is such a thing as brushing too much, too hard, and too often. The ADA (American Dental Association) recommends twice a day, or after every meal.
Either way, I like to break routines.
I understand it is important to floss carefully not to damage the gums.
I think you should brush then floss and rinse with water.
I think the reason why you floss is because you brushed and could have missed some in between your teeth, so you floss and then rinse. But this is my opinion, Its all up to you! :-)
I brush, then floss. Doing it this way is like doing the detail work after doing the general work. When I floss, I use the Reach Access Daily Flosser (the floss is on a small horseshoe of plastic, which is mounted on a toothbrush-like handle), mainly because I have a small mouth and compartively large fingers. So now I'm able to reach all of my teeth.
If you are thorough with both processes, you will get the plaque off. I tell patients it really doesn't matter, just do it. I truly don't believe you will damage your enamel by brushing to much. If you are using a soft brush. Your root surface is another matter. It is not made of enamel and if using too aggressive back and forth motions and/or using a firm brush, yes, it will wear away. Enamel is the hardest substance in your body. Keeping it clean is far better than letting plaque bugs and acids eat it away.
I do often tell patients if they are having a hard time getting into the habit of flossing that they should floss first then brush. You know you'll brush, so if you get the flossing over with first, then for sure you will brush. Make sense??

How do you floss with veneers since they are very tight together?

Answer:
Your veneers may have been placed to "close" large spaces or gaps, but they are not so tight as to make flossing difficult or impossible. There is always sufficient space for floss to slide in between each tooth, just as your natural teeth should have. Hope I've been of some help and good luck!Additional information: It is true that some patients have to slide the floss out by "pulling it through" rather than up or down, when the contact is too tight on a veneer, although this should "not" be the case if it is adjusted and polished properly prior to the cementation to the tooth, and this type of contact should never happen with a permanent crown. Veneers are very fragile and can be easily fractured or popped off when force is applied, such as with flossing. Although a veneer "can be adjusted and polished" to where there are no rough areas interproximally that could "catch" the floss causing this force to be applied, it is not always done for fear of fracturing or stressing the veneer causing a fracture or crack to happen later. The proper technique of flossing should always be used unless there is absolutely no other option available.
i got my teeth done about 3 months back and i found that glide by crest works the best it comes in a small blue and white round canister.
how much do veneers cost?sorry i just thought i would ask
I have the same thing. I have veneers and crowns and sometimes it's hard to get in w/floss. I use Crest Glide or Oral B Satin. They're flat, wider and easy glide. I find th Crest slips in easy but the Oral B seems to have a rougher texture and cleans better. But everyone's different. =) Once you get in, if it's hard to get back out from how you got in, pull the floss out sideways. My dentist told me to do this because she didn't want me accidentally pulling out the veneer/crown with it overtime. It takes a little longer but helps a lot. I have to do it in front of the mirror for those teeth though. Good luck!

How do you floss with braces? part 2?

i just got my upper braces 2days ago and i tried to floss but it really hurts! when can i try again?%26gt;? how many days did u actually floss after getting braces?
Answer:
I have braces right now, and i floss just fine. At first it will hurt because your teeth are getting used to them. After a period of time, it wont hurt as bad. but keep flossing. Hope i helped!
Try using the Waterpik Flosser or Oral B Hummingbird to get between your teeth at gum level. Much easier than trying to use a floss threader!

How do you fix bad breath?

Answer:
Bad breadth is also caused by stomach ulcers. So u need to take treatment for that as well.
Brush twice a day, floss at least once a day or use other interdental cleaning method and use anti bacterial mouth rinse. Make sure u brush your tounge once a day. Bad breath could be due to Gastic problems so if ur oral hygiene is good, check with ur doctor for gasteric problem.

D2B has great suggestions - also remember those dentist check-ups which may be necessary to eliminate the problem.
Plus, parsley works very well (and is delicious)!
Brushing and Flossing regularly is basic. Also brushing your tongue around once a day helps as well, including using a mouthwash. If you ever need a quick fix, you could just pop in a peppermint.
have you tried regular brushing maybe you should try after every meal
if that doesnt work then mouthwash would help after every meal
if not then see your dentist who will then decide if there might be an underlying medical condition causing the halitosis so it could be a prob with gums or gastrointestinal tract but only your doc can determine that all the best
A few seeds of cardamom chewed for a brief while will clear your mouth of bad breath. Chew parsley leaves, which are sure to keep your breath fresh. More useful remedies at http://useinfo5.blogspot.com/
Get a teeth cleaning. Use a tongue scraper. There's some with a brush on one end and a scraper on the other. Brush gently in a few directions then scrape. Brush with a soft bristle brush for about 2-3 mins. Floss daily. Sugarless gums help too. Drink plenty of water. Best to start with a cleaning though. =)

How do you cure gingivitis?

I have a small case of gingivitis, and I wanted to know what it took to get rid of or treat it. Thanks so much! (;
Answer:
Listerine and baking soda continuously at least twice a day
Brush your teeth at least 2-3 times daily using soft, circular strokes. Be sure to angle your toothbrush toward your gumline. Spend at least 2 minutes brushing each time. Floss at least once daily, making sure to go below the gumline a little, and pulling the floss to form a "c" around each tooth. You may notice bleeding for the first few days while brushing and flossing this way, but it will subside. The bleeding is due to the increased blood flow your body is providing to the area to rid your gums of the infection. When you've kept the bacterial plaque off of your teeth long enough for the tissue to heal, the bleeding will subside. In addition, brushing and flossing properly will "toughen up" the tissue a little. For soreness, rinse with warm salt water (1 tbs salt/1 cup warm water) a few times a day. Although Listerine and baking soda will kill bacteria, they should not be used more than once daily as they can cause tissue sloughing. Besides inadequate oral care, gingivitis can be a result of dry mouth due to medications or mouth breathing, hormone fluctuations caused by birth control meds or pregnancy, and medications that cause gingival hyperplasia-an overgrowth of gingival tissue. Good Luck!
Brush your teeth more frequently than recommended and rinse with a mixture of sea salt and warm water.
I usually recommend Listerine, but only after you have already brushed and flossed, two to three times a day. Gingivitis is caused by bacteria in the mouth and, when left untreated, causes Periodontis (the cause of bone loss, loose teeth and tooth loss in adults). It has been noted that patients with untreated Gingivitis and Periodontitis have an increased risk of diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. So, treat it early! Best wishes in your fight against those little boogers.
Brush your teeth with a soft bristle brush and for 2 mins. Look up on how to brush correctly. Sounds silly but it helps. Floss daily doing a "c" up to the gumline and curving around the tooth. And booking an appt with the hygienist for a cleaning. Good luck!

How do you clean cap teeth,my real teeth are whiter then the two cap ones?

Answer:
when your cap teeth were applied the dentist matched those teeth to your natural teeth color...if used anything lately to bleach your teeth ex. whittening toothpaste your teeth could have became lighter but your cap teeth will remain the same color..they do not change color with whitening tooth paste...if applied years ago might be time to change them anytime after 5 years insurances will cover the costs of changing caps otherwise if your not willing to pay the extra cash to change them because of the color your stuck with them for the mean time..
you need to have your dentist color match them. there is nothing you can do to change the color. the dentist should have color matched them before putting the caps on.

How do we get rid of stinky saliva?

Answer:
Well, you have to determine what is most likely to be making the bad smell. Is it really the saliva, or some other thing causing bad breath?Nasal infection can cause bad breath. Treat the nasal problem.Dry mouth - sjogren's syndrome and other diseases can cause mucous membranes to dry out - there is a reduction in saliva and that cause bad mouth odor. There are artifical salliva products and medications.Sleeping with the mouth open can cause terrible breath because the saliva is not wet enough to rinse out the mouth. Use a nose strip to hold the nose open when sleeping.Tongue bacteria - remember to always brush your tongue or use a tongue scraper.Dental bacteria or tooth decay - remember to floss between the teeth and get your teeth professionally cleaned twice per year by the dentist.Stomach odors from diet - smelly, pungent foods like garlic, onion, curry, cheeses can cause bad smells that float up from the stomach and come out of the mouth. Low carb diets also produce ketone gases that smell bad.
I don't know, if ur saliva stinks, then u should go see a doctor.
cavity or stomach problems...or even stress
Use Denta-Med gel. It will work in a matter of days. try it. You'll see. I used to have smelly breath and a dry mouth, not to mention ulcers, all the time! Once I started using the gel, I have a clean, fresh mouth and am so much more confident and outgoing.
Good luck.

When i smile i just do a smirk, where my teeth barely show. How would i do a basic simple smile? Anyone with an overbite firgure this out?
Answer:
Get braces you wont regret it, You can still talk and it only hurts for 2 weeks after you get them put on.
Just try to show your top teeth with out your bottom. Or just move you bottom teeth up if it is a picture.
Either half-smile without showing your teeth, or don't smile.
Frown while doing a headstand? You ask difficult questions. I think there is no real way and feel comfortable at the same time.

How do u floss your teeth with braces on?

i mean, the wires are all on and the floss cant pass through those wires like how one can withput braces on. then how do you clean the spaces between each teeth?
Answer:
Use a floss threader. It's a flexible plastic loop. Looks like a tiny noose, lol. You put your floss in the loop, stick the straight side through your wire and pull through. It'll pull the floss through for easier flossing. They sell it at any drugstore or your Ortho may have them. In the beginning, it might take a little longer but after a while, it gets easy. A Waterpik is another option. But my Ortho said it shouldnt' replace manual flossing. I use to use it after meals but floss once per day. Good luck!
use disposable teeth flossers
You stick the floss under the bracket, and pull is through the space between your teeth to floss.
It takes a little bit of time, but flossing is an absolute must - especially when you have braces. This is because you have a higher risk for your gums becoming inflammed (food trap, teeth shifting, etc.) and also a higher risk for cavities (difficulty cleaning around braces).
Go to your nearest CVS or Walgreens and purchase for "floss threaders." Or you can order the "FlossFish Flossing Tool" on their website:http://www.dentakit.com/flfltoforbr.html...There is an instructional video as well!
Ask for those special brushes with spikes on the end
they work
Try using a Waterpik Flosser the little plastic tip goes between the teeth under the brackets and wires - cost about $10. The Oral B Hummingbird with the Stimudent type tip would also work but is somewhat thicker than the Flosser tips.
there are these little things you can buy them in the dental aisle in your local grocery store or whatever and there is a whole you stick the floss through there then in between the wires pull till you get the floss push down and repeat.
You can do it. But you have to go out and buy special floss that has a stiff end. Precut strips of floss that have 1 end a little stiff and you are then able to pull it through around the braces. I suggest Glide brand threaded floss.

How do they tighten braces?

I just got my braces on friday and my mouth is sore. When they wire your mouth up and put the rubber bands on, are they tightening your braces or are they just wires on? The orthodontist was pushing on my teeth and wiring them one at a time so is it tightening? Also if not, how do they tightened braces? thanks
Answer:
They do put on smaller and different kinds of wires to help the teeth move into the places they should be. The wires are different lengths and different shapes. Your orthodontist was attaching the one wire to your individual brackets one at a time. If you look closely, you have tiny rubber bands on each bracket holding the wire on. Don't worry, the pain will go away and it will get better. I've had braces twice myself.
braces are tightened by the orthodontist, after your teeth settle from rubber bands pulling them in the direction the need to go. he will put wire in at every visit that is smaller or bent in direction your teeth need to be. take advil it will help, also light clenching will make it more bearable.
Differs per person, per appointment. My first 'tightening' was simply a change of elastic ligatures and a powerchain. The same wire was used. You may feel pushing, but it isn't, it's just changing the elastic ligatures that go round the bracket.

How do they put on the fixed braces?

Answer:

How do they put on and take off braces?

Answer:
well i dont really know cause i couldnt see what they was doing to me but from what i gathered they used some cement like stuff and bonded the brackets to each of my teeth.then they put this like metal ring around your back teeth to hold the wire, then they just insert the wire into the brackets with the elastic things over the top to hold it in place. and when they take them out they just remove the wire and kinda clip them off by twisting. i think they heat the cement stuff first tho im not too sure but this is what i think they did to me lool
Some dentist use different ways. When you get your next check up, ask.
they put them on with glue and then to take them off, they take out the wire and pull off the brackets
They use a chemical cement to bond them. It's applied to each tooth, and a light is held over it for 20 seconds per tooth. Then they stick on little metal things to hold the wire and elastics. It takes a while, they also have to put on little metal tubes on your molars. As for having them taken off, I don't know.
http://www.braceface.com/gettingbraces.h...http://www.braceface.com/bracesoff.htm...Those two web pages should explain it well to you. The process of getting them on is painless.

How do orthodontists take braces off?

My sister got braces not long ago and is not coping with them and has them taken off in about 6 weeks. She is wondering how they are removed from her mouth?
Answer:
well first they take the wire ou like they do when they tighten them, then the snap the brackets of with a plier looking thing(the metal thats on the teeth as well as the metal that goes around the teeth), they then scrape he glue off, after which theyll polish her teeth, and make a mold to make a retainer , it doesnt hurt its just slightly uncomfortable
They pull it off with plyers.

How do orthodontists put in spacers?

im getting my brackets and spacers on tuesday and i wanted to know how the orthodontist put them in
Answer:
There is an instrument that looks kind of like a fork. You put the spacer around the end and stretch it out. Then you just kind of work it inbetween the teeth like floss. It's super easy! It feels weird and it may make you sore because it will start moving your teeth right away but you can just take tylenol for that. I do it almost everyday!
Don't worry!
they just use floss an d work them in you may feel pressure on your teeth for a day or two. No they dont bother your gums either
The spacers are needed to make room for the braces on your back teeth. The back bands are 'anchors' to stabilize your entire mouth, so they are bands around the whole tooth instead of brackets glued on the fronts/outsides. If your back teeth are tight, the spaces make just enough room for the bands to be placed around those anchor teeth. The spacers are like very small rubber bands. When you stretch out a rubber band, it gets thinner, right? The dentist uses the 'fork' device an earlier poster described, to stretch the band thinner. He/She then squishes it between your teeth like dental floss. When the tool is removed, the band goes back to it's original thick shape, and encourages the teeth to move apart a tiny bit.It will feel like you have food stuck in between your teeth, and you will feel some pressure as the teeth move a tiny bit over a few days/weeks. Tylenol and advil are good advice.
